Built for homeschool families with teens

Chores, calendar and shopping lists. One fridge for the whole family.

You're teacher, driver and dispatcher. Everyone sees their part on their own phone, and you only hear about what needs you.

A real fridge door covered in two chore charts, a weekly menu, a handwritten list, a football schedule and coupons.
Chad's actual fridge. Before.

The fridge door is where family plans go to die.

Sticky notes fall off, the calendar is three calendars, and someone always texts from the checkout line.

How it works

Chores, a shared family calendar and shopping lists, handled.

Chores

"The chore list on the fridge? Lost by Tuesday."

Teens get their list on their own phone, and younger kids can use the kitchen tablet. They check things off, and you see what's done without asking. No more nagging.

Family calendar

"Co-op moved, practice moved, and only one of you knew."

One family week everyone can see. Filter to one person, set repeats, and bring in what's already in Google, Apple or Cozi.

Shopping lists

"'Anyone need anything?' texted from the checkout line."

Tap Heading to the store and the family gets a heads-up. Anything they add buzzes your phone, and items cross off live on every phone.

Focused on purpose

Three core features, done really well.

FreeTheFridge has three core features: chores, the family calendar and shopping lists. We'd rather do three things really well. If you need a fourth thing solved, like lesson plans, grades or budgeting, we're probably not your app, and that's okay.

Coming next: ongoing calendar sync and time-to-leave reminders, both improvements to the same three things.

How it starts

Three steps, and everyone knows their part.

1

Join the beta

Leave your email. Two quick follow-up questions are optional.

2

Get your invite

We let families in a few at a time, and your invite comes by email.

3

Set up the family

It takes about 3 minutes. Then everyone sees their part.

Free and Plus, in short

Chores, the family calendar and shopping lists are on the Free plan. Plus adds the AI helpers, like Snap the Fridge, which reads a handwritten list. The first 100 families get a free year of Plus, no card.

Privacy

Your family, your rules.

Kids' data stays with your family. You decide what's shared and with whom.

Location sharing will always be opt-in. When it arrives, it's off until your family turns it on.

Rules are agreed in advance. No scoreboards, no surprises. Everyone knows the deal up front.

Who we are

Two Sioux Falls homeschool dads, done herding cats.

We're Chad and Jay. Our families have each homeschooled for 14+ years, so we live this every day. Our life isn't to manage our kids. It's to know them. So we started building the app we wanted in our own kitchens.

Jay is a homeschool dad of 5 and a product and technology leader who builds the app. Chad is a homeschool dad of 3 and a former stay-at-home dad who leads our marketing and beta families.

Started at the AiEdge Buildathon in Sioux Falls. Thank you to AiEdge, Wildfire Labs, and every family who talked with us!

Chill. It's handled.

The FreeTheFridge beta is open, and the first 100 families get a free year of Plus. Join and we'll send your family an invite.
